USAGiftOnline Veterans Day

Saluting you on Veterans Day!

"Oh, valiant hearts, who to your glory come, through dust of conflict and through battle flame...
("The Supreme Sacrifice")

Veterans Day honors all men and women who served in the US armed forces. They are heroes protecting our country with courage and pride. November 11 is the day to remember the sacrifices of all those who fought bravely in all America-s wars.

It started as celebration of the armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, that ended World War 1 on Nov 11, 1918. After four years of brutal war, the armistice was signed on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day in the eleventh month. In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 as Armistice Day to remind Americans to rejoice and celebrate world peace on the day when "war to end all wars" was over.

In 1954, Congress changed holiday-s name to Veterans Day to honor all United States veterans. The celebration includes parades and speeches to show our service people tremendous respect, honor and appreciation that they deserve.

Unknown World War I and World War II and Korean conflict American soldiers are buried in Arlington National Cemetery. "Here rests in honored glory an American Soldier known but to God" is written on the white marble stone. Saluting brave hearts of our nation resting in eternal glory, each year, at 11 a.m. on November 11, official, national Joint Service Honors Ceremonies are held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
More than 60,000 American war dead are honored on this day. A combined color guard representing all military services executes "Present Arms" at the tomb. The tribute to heroes who safeguard this nation's peace and freedom is symbolized by laying a presidential wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns.

If you know veterans, make a special effort to say "Thank you" to them for their patriotism and willingness to serve and sacrifice. I am sure that this little effort will be very much appreciated. Visit a memorial or attend a local parade to honor heroes protecting our country with courage and pride. Send a veteran your greeting saying that you are remembering and celebrating this day. Reach out and let your actions reflect your heartfelt love and greatest respect for those in extraordinary service of the nation.

With warmest wishes for peace, joy and good health,
