Carnations are the flowers associated with Mother-s Day celebrations since its first celebration on May 10, 1908. Anna Jarvis gave white carnations to each who attended the church service in Grafton, West Virginia, in memory of her mother. Our mothers gave us life and protected us from harm. Mother's Day is a day to recognize the immense importance of a mother in the family. In the United States, on Mother's Day, the national flag is put up on every house and important buildings to honor motherhood and the mothers of the country.
