Let the triumph of our Lord guide and inspire you and your loved ones.
In Christian countries Easter is celebrated as the most important religious holiday commemorating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the son of God. Resurrection of Christ, which occurred on a Sunday after his death by crucifixion in AD 27-33, is observed from March 22 to April 25 inclusive. Easter marks the end of the forty days of Lent, a period of fasting and penitence in preparation for the highest festival of the church year, Easter. Holy Week, the last week of Lent, begins with the observance of Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday takes its name from Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem where the crowds laid palms at his feet. Holy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper, which was held the evening before the Crucifixion. Friday in Holy Week is the anniversary of the Crufixion, the day that Christ was crucified and died on the cross.
The Greeks called Easter the Pascha anastasimon (the passage to life). Voluntarily assuming and overcoming human frailty, Christ defeats death by dying. During service of light hundreds of candles and colored lamps are lit in churches to represent the splendor of Christ’s Resurrection, the cornerstone, upon which faith is built. The Christian celebration of Easter relates to the Jewish festival of Passover which commemorates the flight and freedom of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt.
On Easter, celebrate the return of spring with beautiful emblems signifying germinating life. The ancient custom of decorating eggs symbolizes the Easter joy. Brightly colored on Saturday evening and mysteriously hidden all over the house and garden, Easter eggs and other sweet treats are delivered by the Easter Bunny on Sunday morning in a basket which children find waiting for them when they wake up.
